On July 29, two fishermen from Ventspils (northwestern Latvia) caught a huge catfish in the Daugava River, the ''TV3'' nightly news reported in the evening.
The catfish is 2.2 meters long and weighs 72 kilograms, writes LETA.
As one of the fishermen Andrejs Makarovs told the television channel, they were able to hook the fish, which then ''gave them a ride'' for about 1.5 hours before reeling it in.
As reported, on July 25 of last year, a man from the Latvian town of Nerete (southern Latvia) by the name of Janis Kolpakovs caught the largest catfish ever recorded in Latvian waters in the Daugava River between the town of Koknese and the city of Aizkraukle.
The catfish weighed 76.1 kilograms.
