The Geminids meteor shower or shooting stars will be visible in the night skies over Latvia this weekend, as the project director of the Latvian Astronomy Association (LAA) Martins Gilis informed LETA.

The meteor shower will reach the peak of intensity at around 7 a.m. on December 14 and can be observed throughout the night from December 13 to December 14, if the cloud cover will not be too thick .

Gilis comments the moon is going to be in the waning crescent phase and will not shine too brightly this weekend, which will allow the stars to be better visible.

The brightest shooting stars can usually be observed during the Perseid meteor shower in August, however, also the meteor rain in December can give a chance to make a wish for those looking up in the skies.

Meteorologists forecast cloudy weather with clear spells for this weekend.
