Santa Claus brings Czech beer to PRU, mashed potatoes to Centre Party in Estonia

BC, Tallinn, 17.12.2009.Print version

Santa Claus visited the Estonian parliament on Thursday and brought a gift to each party faction that symbolized the achievements or faux-pas of the parties this year, National Broadcasting/LETA reports.

Pro Patria and Res Publica Union (PRU) got a 5-litre can of Czech beer from Santa Claus who said it was for the troubles with the victory monument in Tallinn. Namely the Czech company that produced the monument, made of glass blocks, has still not managed to fix all the flaws in the monument.

People’s Union received a compass. “I have the impression that you are losing orientation,” the Santa Claus said, referring to the fact that the party’s municipality elections results were at all time lows and the party held talks with several suitors before deciding it would continue independently for the time being.

Social Democrats received red capes as the Santa Claus said they moved from pouring rain to under the edge of the roof by the end of the year, referring to the fact that they formed a coalition with the Centre Party in Tallinn.

Centre Party MPs each received a package of mashed potatoes. “When this is used up and you are cold, Tallinn will help you,” Santa Claus said, referring to the major campaign of distributing potatoes and logs for heating that the party organised in Estonia’s capital before local municipality elections.

Santa Claus gave yellow vests of public transport attendants to Reform Party MPs so that they wouldn’t forget a part of their voters. Reform Party has ridiculed the so-called social jobs programme of Tallinn, where the job of public transport travel attendants was created to ease joblessness in the city.
