Latvian athletes Andris and Juris Sics came second in the men's doubles luge event at the Vancouver Olympics on Wednesday, winning a silver medal for Latvia, reports LETA.

Following the first run, the Latvians were in second place behind Austrians Andreas and Wolfgang Linger. The situation did not change after the second run. Overall, the Sics brothers finished 0.264 seconds behind the winners.

Third place was won by Germany's Patric Leitner and Alexander Resch, who were back in fifth position after the first run. They finished only 0.071 seconds behind the Sics brothers.

The second Latvian duo Peteris Kalnins and Oskars Gudramovics were in 12th position after the first run, and maintained this position after the second.

With their second-placed finish, the Sics brothers won Latvia's second Winter Olympics medal as an independent nation. Four years ago another luger, Martins Rubenis, took bronze at the Turin games.
