Several thousand Latvian fans pay homage to Grodums

Print versionSeveral thousand fans gathered in Riga's Vermanes Garden Park on June 17 for a star-studded concert-tribute to the legendary Latvian rock star Janis Grodums, who died on Tuesday, reports LETA.
The many colleagues and devotees of Grodums in the finale joined together in a rendition of "Ozolam", but his most popular song, the anthem-like "Dzimta valoda" ("Native Language") was played through the loudspeakers in its original recorded version.
The evening began with fans placing flowers by a portrait of Grodums. Candles were also lit.
Grodums, a member of the Liepaja band "Livi" since 1976, passed away in hospital on Tuesday evening at age 51.
