Naval Force in Lithuania holds international NATO course
On February 1-3, Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) will hold a Maritime Evaluation (MAREVAL) Course for members of navies of NATO states at the Headquarters of the Lithuanian Naval Force, Klaipeda Seaport, informed BC the Ministry of National Defence. The course will be attended by 25 students representing Lithuania, Denmark, Italy, USA, Poland, France and Turkey.
SHAPE and Maritime components commands in the United Kingdom (MCC Northwood) and Italy (MCC Naples) will delegate instructors to deliver the training. A Lithuanian officer currently serving at MCC Northwood will also come with the instructors' team. During the course the listeners will familiarise with NATO Maritime Evaluation Programme, criteria of efficient evaluation and recommendations. They will also deepen their knowledge in planning and exercise of a maritime evaluation in line with NATO doctrines and standards. Graduates of the course will become certified MAREVAL evaluators.
NATO MAREVAL Course is held twice a year in one of NATO's maritime component commands in the United Kingdom or Italy. On Lithuania's initiative and by consent from SHAPE one of the annual courses is held in Klaipeda to attract more Lithuanian's representatives and optimize handing of financial resources.
NATO Maritime Evaluation Programme (MAREVAL) is a system of assessing military units in compliance with NATO standards. Ships of the Lithuanian Naval Force preparing for duty in NATO Response Force and NATO's units undergo training in line with NATO standards and are assessed according to MAREVAL programme.
