White storks to return to Latvia in the coming days

In the coming days, migrating white storks (Ciconia ciconia) will return to Latvia in large numbers, with male storks arriving first to retake their previous nests or build a new nest. The female birds will join their mates several days later, informs LETA.
Some white storks have already returned to Latvia. The first were noticed by birdwatchers on March 20, according to information from the nature portal ''www.dabasdati.lv''.
Since then, storks have been observed throughout the country.
The storks are able to find food even in the current weather conditions – mice, moles, insects and small fish.
These birds are also very flexible. If there is too much snow and it is too cold, the birds just fly away for a while to where the climate is more suitable.
