Spring tour of Defence Attaches ended in Lithuania

On May 23 – 24 Defence Attaches accredited to Lithuania conducted spring tour across the Lithuanian Armed Forces, reports BC the press service of the National Defence Ministry. On the first day of the tour Defence Attaches visited the Lithuanian Grand Duke Kestutis Motorised Infantry Battalion in Sakalines village (Taurage Distr.). The guests met with the command and familiarized with activities and tasks of the Battalion subordinate to the Motorised Infantry Brigade "Iron Wolf" of the Lithuanian Armed Forces.

 

On the following day foreign Defence Attaches paid a visit to the Lithuanian Naval Force (LNF) and met with LNF Commander-in-Chief Adm (R) Kestutis Macijauskas. LNF structure, activity and tasks, and Lithuania's participation in the trilateral Baltic project Baltic Squadron (BALTRON) were presented to the guests. They also toured LNF Command Centre and Naval Flotilla.

 

Following the tradition, spouses of the Defence Attaches could enjoy a separate cultural programme.

 

Foreign Defence Attaches conduct study tours in divisions of the Lithuanian Armed Forces biannually, in autumn and in spring.

 

Currently there are 28 foreign Defence Attaches accredited in Lithuania with two US officers serving as Defence and Army Attache and Naval Attache. 11 Defence Attache are based in Vilnius. Present Chairman of the Foreign Defence Association in Vilnius is Capt (N) Ulf Berthelsen (Denmark).

 

192 defence attaches have been accredited to Lithuania since 1991.
