Lithuania peacekeepers to receive decorations after Afghanistan mission
On February 20, decoration ceremony for the personnel of the 6th shift of the National Support Unit (NSU-6) will be held at the Logistics Command, the Defense Ministry reports.
According to a tentative program, the event will be attended by Deputy Minister of National Defense Mykolas Juozapavicius, Chief of Defense of Lithuania Lt Gen Arvydas Pocius, Commander of the Logistics Command Col Ovidijus Eitminavicius, military and civilian personnel of the Logistics Command, relatives of the decorated troops and other guests.
NSE-6 included 22 troops under the command of Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics of the Lithuanian Land Force Maj Rimvydas Balinskas.
They were deployed on the mission last July and finished their tour of duty on February 15. National defense system-level decorations, medals and badges For Deployment on International Missions, will be presented to the personnel of NSE-6 at the homecoming ceremony, the Distinguished SerDeputy Medal of the National Defense System of the Republic of Lithuania will be bestowed on NSE-6 Commander Maj Balinskas, and several other awards and commendations will be given.
National Support Element was established to ensure a more efficient logistic provision for Lithuania's military units deployed on multinational operations and control of the process.
In the mission theatre NSE is in charge of acquisition, storage, provision, recording and write-off of materiel, management of financial resources from the Lithuanian Armed Forces, arrangement of intake and further movement of military and civilian personnel, and other functions.
The core of NSE is deployed in Kabul International Airport. Separate troops of the unit serve at Kandahar Airfield, and the NSE Provision Team is based with the Lithuanian-led Provincial Reconstruction Team in Chaghcharan.
