The 22nd Nordea Riga Marathon will be held on May 20, as NECom board chairman and marathon organizer, Aigars Nords, told reporters during a press conference yesterday, writes LETA.

"Nordea" Riga Marathon participants will be offered four distances this year – the 42.195-kilometer marathon event, the half-marathon, slightly above 21 kilometers, the ten-kilometer marathon, and the five-kilometer fun run.

Just like last year, the marathon's course lies in the heart of Riga, its start and finish – on the Daugava Embankment, crossing Vansu or Southern bridges.

Marathon and half-marathon events have become more popular this year. During previous years, we encouraged to take part in five- and ten-kilometer runs. It seems that this tactic to raise new marathon runners has paid off, said Nords.

This will be the first year that Nordea Riga Marathon will be held with the prestigious International Association of Athletics Federation's (IAAF) Road Race Bronze Label, becoming the first marathon in Northern Europe to receive this award.
