Gulbis through to second round of U.S. Open

Yesterday, Latvia's top ranked tennis player Ernests Gulbis defeated Tommy Haas (Germany) 3-6, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5, 6-3 in the first round of the U.S. Open, informs LETA.
At the moment, Gulbis is ranked 145th in the ATP rankings, while Haas is ranked 21st.
Gulbis has earned 45 ATP ranking points for qualifying for the second round of the tournament, where he will play Steve Johnson (United States).
If Gulbis qualifies for the third round, he could face Richard Gasquet (France), and in the fourth round – David Ferrer (Spain).
As reported, last year, Gulbis dropped out of the U.S. Open in the second round.
