Latvian football team drops to lowest ever ranking

The Latvian national men's football team has dropped 24 spots in the latest FIFA football rankings, and is currently ranked 118th in the world. Latvia currently has 284 ranking points. This is Latvia's lowest FIFA ranking ever, informs LETA.

 

Just this past August, Latvia was ranked 70th in the FIFA rankings.

 

Last month, Latvia lost it opening two World Cup qualifiers to Greece at home 1:2, and at Bosnia & Herzegovina 1:4.

 

The Lithuanian side has moved up six spots in the rankings to 110th position this month. Meanwhile, Estonia has dropped 14 spots to 69th.

 

Latvia will play its next two World Cup qualifiers next week – on October 12 at Slovakia, and on October 16 at home against Liechtenstein.


Spain is ranked first in the rankings, followed by Germany and Portugal in third.

 

Argentina is ranked fourth, followed in fifth by England and the Netherlands in sixth.

 

Uruguay is ranked seventh, Italy is ranked eighth, Colombia is in ninth, whilst Greece is ranked 10th.


Meanwhile, Latvia's World Cup 2014 qualification group opponents are currently ranked as follows: Greece – 10th, Bosnia & Herzegovina – 29th, Slovakia – 48th, Lithuania – 110th, and Liechtenstein – 155th.
