Lithuania and Jordan seek strengthening of relations

"In 2010 Lithuania is chairing the Organisation's for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Contact Group with the Mediterranean Partners for Co-operation and values Jordan's contribution to the objective of spreading democratic standards in the regions neighbouring the OSCE space," Deputy Foreign Minister Adomavicius noted.
Information on important issues in the region and on relations with neighbouring countries was also exchanged during the meeting.
Deputy Minister Adomavicius conveyed an invitation to Jordan's Minister of Foreign Affairs to visit Lithuania with a business delegation. Judeh accepted the invitation and intends to visit Lithuania in the short run. There are also plans to accredit the Ambassador of Jordan to Lithuania. The ambassador would reside in the Netherlands. On the same day, Lithuania's Deputy Foreign Minister met with head of the Jordanian Businessmen Association Hamdi Tabbaa. Deputy Minister Adomavicius presented opportunities for business and tourism development in Lithuania. They also discussed the visit of the Jordanian business delegation to Lithuania in 2010.
On 27 April, the Deputy Minister met with President of the University of Jordan Khaled Al-Karaki. During the meeting, possibilities of cooperation between the Lithuanian and Jordanian universities were discussed. The University of Jordan is interested in developing cooperation with Lithuania, particularly in the field of medicine, and in signing partnership agreements between the universities.
Jordan recognized Lithuania's Independence on 15 September 1991. Lithuania established diplomatic relations with this country on 5 July 1994.
