The case of former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko is a great obstacle in developing Ukrainian-European Union relations, Lithuanian PM Andrius Kubilius said to his counterpart Mykola Azarov Thursday in Vilnius.

"Tymoshenko's case in Brussels is seen as a major obstacle in further process of Ukraine's convergence with the EU, this is something that worries us a lot," Kubilius said in a joint press conference. Meanwhile Ukrainian premier said they were looking for ways how to resolve the problem, informs LETA/ELTA.

Azarov said that Tymoshenko's unlawful actions have seriously harmed Ukrainian economy. As a result, the people of Ukraine now have to pay extremely high prices for natural gas. "The best solution for her is to acknowledge her fault to the people of Ukraine. Many problems would get cleared up if she recognized her fault and said she was sorry. I would like to stress that I am not a lawyer and this is just my personal opinion, there has to be a legal solution. Our partners in Europe must understand this simple truth," Azarov said.

He underlined that neither the Government nor Ukrainian president have a right to rule in Tymoshenko's case as it is the court competence. "I believe that mister Kubilius understands everything very well. I suggested him imagining himself in my position and asked him what he would do if he was in my shoes, would he command the court? He, of course, would never do a thing like that and this something that neither I nor the president will ever do," the Ukrainian PM said.
