According to Yeltsina, Boris Yeltsin loved the Baltic States and Lithuania very much.

"It's not just words, it was confirmed by the work," said the guest, reports LETA/ELTA.

"Our nations are historically connected, even though there were some cataclysms, but the nation and the people are not responsible for any of it. Everything was done by politicians and executives. If we live in the past, it will not help to create a good neighbourhood and warm humane relations," said Yeltsina.

"Lithuanians know Russian people very well and they are aware of how sincere Russians are. I think that the late President Boris Yeltsin contributed much to such understanding," said Lithuanian Speaker of the Seimas Irena Degutiene.

President Dalia Grybauskaite presented the Grand Cross of the Order of the Cross of Vytis awarded posthumously to former Russian President Boris Yeltsin to his widow Naina Yeltsina.

Boris Yeltsin is the first President of Russia who was conferred posthumously with a highest Lithuanian state decoration for his personal contribution to strengthening Lithuania's statehood and exclusive merits in promoting interstate relations between the Republic of Lithuania and the Russian Federation.
