Lithuania announces 2013 – year of scientist Meile Luksiene

Print versionThe Seimas has announced 2013 as the year of Meile Luksiene. The decision was made to celebrate 100th birth anniversary of the scientist, member of Lithuanian Reform Movement, pioneer of State education reform and professor Luksiene.

Luksiene is author and co-author of many books on education. She also worked as a teacher, university lecturer at Vilnius University and was head of Lithuanian Literature Department, informs LETA/ELTA.
The 100th birth anniversary of the scientist was included in the UNESCO list of the celebratory dates in the 36th Session of UNESCO's General Conference in Paris. UNESCO emphasized the important role Luksiene had played in the development of the modern education system and the creation of democratic Lithuanian community.
