26 students from 16 countries will participate in Riga Summer School 2013

In 2013, the Riga Summer School, which is organized the third year in a row by the Department of Communications Studies of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Latvia, will be attended by 26 students from 16 different countries.

During the summer school the students will attend lectures, practical workshops and shoot short films about the identity of Riga, informs the University of Latvia.

 

The participants will represent such countries as – Mexico, Nigeria, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Georgia, Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Slovakia, Germany, Czech Republic, Ukraine,  Poland, Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia. This year for the first time the summer school will be also attended by 8 high school students from the regions of Latvia, who have shown interest in the making of documentaries and audiovisual journalism.

 

During the summer school the participants will be divided into small creative groups to make documentaries about the identity of Riga’s different neighborhoods – its inhabitants, culture and architecture. Films will be premiered at the Riga Summer School 2013 Closing Ceremony on August 10 at 19:00 at the Berlin auditorium of Faculty of Social Sciences. Everyone is welcome to attend the premieres.

 

This year the Riga Summer School will be held from August 3 – 11 and it is organized by the Communication Studies Department of the Social Sciences Faculty of the University of Latvia in cooperation with several partners. The summer school is supported by the National Identity program; the scholarships are being given by The State Education Development Agency.
