Baltic, Polish operators coordinate power grid synchronization study

BC, Vilnius, 29.09.2017.Print version
Power transmission system operators of the Baltic countries and Poland begin to coordinate in Warsaw on Friday a study on the planned synchronization of the Baltic electricity grids with the Western European system, informs LETA/BNS.

The study is important for receiving the terms and conditions of connection from the European Network of Transmission System Operators (ENTSO-E), which will set out the work to be done by the countries, and is expected to help solve disagreements over how many lines to Poland are needed.

"The power transmission operators of the four countries on Friday begin to coordinate the start of the ENTSO-E dynamic study," Litgrid spokesman Giedrius Karsokas told BNS.

European Commission Vice-President for Energy Union Maros Sefcovic said in Tallinn last week that "mild pressure" would be put on the operators to submit the results of the study as soon as possible.

The Baltic nations aim to disconnect from the Soviet-era BRELL ring, which also includes Russia and Belarus, by 2025, but they have so far failed to agree on how to so.
