Lithuanian PM: Ignalina NPP disputes with Nukem have to be settled by late March

BC, Vilnius, 22.02.2013.Print version
Disputes of the Ignalina nuclear power plant (NPP) chiefs with decommissioning contractor Nukem must be settled by the end of March 2013, says Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius, informs LETA/ELTA.

Friday, the PM is paying a working visit to the Ignalina NPP where he familiarised himself with the decommissioning projects and the current problems.

According to the PM, the shutdown work is hindered by disputes with project contractor Nukem, and, as a result, the implementation of projects is behind schedule. For example, the construction of nuclear fuel storage is late for 53 months from the original date and for 22 months after the change of the agreement.

"This project is essential to further decommissioning of the NPP. Disagreements with the contractor must be resolved by the end of March," Butkevicius said.
