"Dividing Eesti Energia will indisputably result in worsening of the financial state – worsen is not the right word, I correct myself – weakening of the financial state," Parts said in the Riigikogu.

"Actually it will bring a price increase to the consumer. Another thing, wont such a step potentially reduce the value of property belonging to the owner, including the owner's income? I think the answer here is also affirmative," said Parts.

Parts added that European Union directive requirements have been fulfilled: a electricity distribution network that has more than 100,000 clients has to be de jure separated, Eesti Energia's distribution network is in the company's subsidiary Elektrilevi.

Estonian Riigikogu economy committee chairwoman Kaja Kallas wrote in her blog on Tuesday that Eesti Energia distribution network should be separated from the company since otherwise, all electricity sellers are not guaranteed equal conditions. Neither does Eesti Energia have the stimulus that would force it to invest enough in the distribution network.
