Private health insurance market of Lithuania increased more than three times

Over the first six months of 2008, the market of private health insurance of Lithuania increased more than three times year-on year.

This insurance market increase was triggered by the amendment to the law of National Social Insurance, adopted on 1 July 2007. This amendment allows the employers, who insure their employees by the additional health insurance, to exclude the SoDra tax from the payments.

Over January-June 2008, the Ergo Lietuva Gyvybes Draudimas" insurance company signed insurance payments summing up to 5 million litas (1.44 million euros), which exceeded the total sum of the first six months of 2007 two times.

Over the first half of the year, 4.22 million litas (1.22 million euros) were paid for the health care services provided to the insured. The majority of the insurance payments (about 70 percent) came from the consultations with doctors and diagnostic examinations in private clinics.
