Additional consolidation measures are possible in the budget's spending as well as revenue sections, Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis (Unity) told reporters after the ruling coalition's meeting today.

Later today, these measures will be discussed by the Reform Management Group.

According to Dombrovksis, some of the consolidation measures could concern the tax on gambling and property tax revenue forecasts. As for expenditures, certain alterations could be made to the annual leave benefits system, writes LETA.

As reported, the necessary budget consolidation amount for 2012 could be LVL 15-20 million higher than the government's previously-planned LVL 122 million, and reach LVL 130-140 million, Finance Minister Andris Vilks (Unity) said in an interview with the Latvian Television broadcast program "Panorama" last week.

This will most likely lead to a 1.7% budget deficit, pointed out the minister, noting that Latvia continues to move towards a well-balanced budget.

Commenting on the additional consolidation amount, Vilks emphasized that these austerity measures will not be carried out at the expense of pensions.
