Skirotava Station is the largest and most important railroad hub for shipments to Riga ports, added Berzins.
Transport Minister Uldis Augulis said in turn that quality railroad infrastructure, as well as modern transport and logistics services, are of major importance for economic development.
The sorting facility at Skirotava Station will speed up freight processing and streamline operations at Latvijas Dzelzcels, said the minister.
The project's total cost amounted to EUR 40.3 million, of which EUR 24 million was provided from the European Union's Cohesion Fund, EUR 6.85 million from the state budget, while Latvijas Dzelzcels' co-financing was EUR 9.53 million.
