In September 2016, Liepaja Airport was certified for commercial flights in
the summer season. On May 16, 2017, Latvian airline airBaltic launched direct flights between Riga and Liepaja.
Liepaja Airport spokesman Agris
Sprude told LETA that the airport
has gradually been upgrading the airport, so that it would be capable of
handling flights also during the winter season.
He also said that discussions are taking place at the moment with other
airlines, which might be interested in opening flights to and from the airport.
Sprude said that the airport continues its development, and praised the
cooperation with airBaltic.
The reconstruction of Liepaja Airport was concluded in 2015.
