Print versionThe Grebneva border control post is one of the largest and best equipped border control posts in Latvia, Finance Minister Andris Vilks (Unity) said today at the opening of the newly-reconstructed post on the Latvia-Russia border.

''This is one of the largest and best equipped border control posts in Latvia. Much financial resources have been invested into the reconstruction. As a result, the effectiveness of the Grebneva crossing will improve, thus reducing smuggling into the European Union from Russia,'' Vilks emphasized.
U.S. Ambassador to Latvia Judith Garber also participated in the opening of the Grebneva border crossing today, who presented a gift from the United States government – technical equipment aimed to help border guards fight illegal smuggling, informs LETA.
''I know that the border guards will know better than me how to make use of this equipment. I only know it will help customs with their everyday work,'' Garber emphasized.
