In the first months of 2011, the amount of accumulated direct investments totaled LVL 4.01 billion, which is 65.7% more than in the respective period of time last year, when the amount of accumulated direct investments reached LVL 2.42 billion, informs LETA.

Lursoft representative Ainars Bruvelis explains that the increase in the amount of direct foreign investments in Latvia means that the country is still attractive to western investors.

Even though several foreign companies were forced to leave Latvia due to the economic crisis, the number of investors and joint ventures has grown by 2,433 to 16,793 over the recent years.

As reported, in 2010, direct foreign investments in Latvia totaled LVL 5.8 billion, which is LVL 100 million more than in 2009, according to data from the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB).

In 2009, direct foreign investments in Latvia amounted to LVL 5.7 billion.

Foreign direct investments received per year amounted to LVL 185.5 million, which is significantly more than in 2009, when Latvia received LVL 47.6 million.

Foreign direct investments received per capita amounted to LVL 82.80. In 2009, the figure was LVL 21.10.

Foreign direct investments received as percent of GDP stood at 1.5%. In 2009, foreign investments amounted to 0.4% of GDP.

Foreign investment stock at the end of the year totaled LVL 25.23 billion, which is higher than in 2009 – LVL 24.15 billion.
