Cargo turnover at ports of Latvia by quarters, million tons

In the 1^st quarter of 2011 at ports of Latvia 14.93 million tons of cargos were loaded, 2.1% more than in the 1^st quarter of 2010.

The volume of oil products loaded at ports in the 1^st quarter of 2011 comprised 5.80 million tons – 8.8% more than in the 1^st quarter of 2010, and the volume of coal loaded constituted 4.07 million tons – an increase of 3%. The volume of mineral fertilisers loaded at Latvia ports grew by more than one third (39.1%) and reached 1.22 million tons. Volume of other main cargos loaded has reduced: timber (1.15 million tons) by 0.6% and iron ore (0.52 million tons) – by 32.8%.

In the first three months of 2011 the volume of cargos unloaded at the ports of Latvia comprised 1.41 million tons, and it is 43.3% more if compared to 1^st quarter of 2010.

Cargos in containers represented the bulk of cargos unloaded:0.38 million tons – 1.5 times more than in the 1^st quarter of 2010, roll on/roll off cargos: 0.27 million tons – 48.9% more, as well as grain and grain products (0.21 million tons) – an increase 2.7 times. New type of cargo received has appeared: coal, in the 1^st quarter of 2011 volume of such cargos reached 0.13 million tons.

If compared to the 1^st quarter of 2010, the cargo turnover at Port of Riga in the 1^st quarter of 2011 grew by 7.5% and comprised 7.68 million tons. 6.93 million tons of freights were loaded in the port, 5.1% more than in January-March a year before, but 0.75 million tons were unloaded – an increase of 36.5%.

In the 1^st quarter of 2011 7.16 million tons of cargos were loaded and unloaded at the Port of Ventspils, 0.7% less than in the 1^st quarter of 2010.The volume of cargos loaded dropped by 2.2% and comprised 6.71 million tons, but the volume of cargos unloaded increased by 29.7%.

Cargo turnover at the Port of Liepaja in the 1^st quarter of 2011 constituted 1 million tons, and this is an increase of 18.4% if compared to the 1^st quarter of 2010.0.98 million tons of cargos were loaded at the port, 6.6% more in comparison with the first three months of the year before. The volume of cargos unloaded at the port grew 2.4 times.

The volume of cargos loaded and unloaded at the minor ports in the 1^st quarter of 2011 comprised 0.31 million tons, an increase of 19.9%, if compared to the 1^st half of 2010.

In the 1^st quarter of 2011 144.8 thousand passengers arrived at and departed from the Passenger Port of Riga, an increase of 40.2% if compared to the 1^st quarter of 2010.

In the 1^st quarter of 2011 passenger turnover at the Port of Ventspils comprised 5.5 thousand, but at the Port of Liepaja – 4.1 thousand passengers.

In the 1^st quarter of 2011 939.6 million passengers arrived at and departed from the Airport “Rīga”, comprising an increase of 2.8%.

In the 1^st quarter of 2011 603.1 thousand passengers using Latvian airlines arrived at and departed from the Airport „Rīga”, a decrease of 1%, if compared to the 1^st quarter a year before. However, 336.5 thousand passengers used foreign airlines, and it is 10.3% more, in comparison with the same period of previous year.

The most notable passenger turnover at Airport "Rīga" in the 1^st quarter of 2011 was with the airports of United Kingdom – 125.3 thousand passengers – a growth of 7.3%, with Germany airports (119.8 thousand passengers) – 2.3% less, and with Finland airports (81.6 thousand passengers) – a rise of 1.4%.
