Cargo turnover at Latvian ports by quarters, million tons

In the 1^st half of 2011 the amount of loaded cargo at Latvian ports reached 31.07 million tons, which is 8.8% more than in the 1^st six months of 2010.

The volume of oil products loaded at ports in the 1^st half of 2011 comprised 11.71 million tons – 18.5% more than in the 1^st half of 2010, and the volume of coal loaded constituted 9.24 million tons – an increase of 16.8%.The volume of mineral fertilisers loaded at ports increased by 16.3% and comprised 2.26 million tons. In its turn, the amount of the loaded timber remained at the level of the corresponding period of the previous year –2.60 million tons (slight increase of 0.6%). The volume of the loaded iron ore comprised 0.93 million tons, which is a decrease of 29.3%.

In the first six months of 2011 the volume of cargo unloaded at Latvian ports reached 3.38 million tons, which is 45.8% more compared to the 1^st half of 2010.

Cargo in containers forms the major part of the unloaded cargo:0.81 million tons – 35.4% more than in the 1^st half of 2010, roll on/roll off cargo:0.59 million tons, which is 38.1% more than in the corresponding period of the previous year, and grain and grain products (0.45 million tons) – an increase of 2.5 times. The amount of unloaded coal reached 0.30 million tons.

Compared to the 1^st half of 2010, the cargo turnover at Riga port in the 1^st six months of 2011 grew by 15.3% and comprised 16.81 million tons. 14.96 million tons of cargo were loaded at the port, which is 12.9% more than in the corresponding period of the previous year. The amount of unloaded cargo reached 1.85 million tons – an increase of 38.9 \%.

In the 1^st half of 2011, 14.48 mln tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded at the port of Ventspils, which is 6.4% more than in the 1^st half of 2010.The volume of loaded cargo increased by 5.2% and comprised 13.55 million tons, whereas the volume of unloaded cargo increased by 27.5%.

Cargo turnover at the port of Liepaja in the 1^st half of 2011 was 2.37 mln tons, showing an increase of 16.8% compared to the 1^st half of 2010.1.79 million tons of cargo were loaded at the port, which is 0.2% less if compared to the first six months of the previous year.The volume of unloaded cargo at the port grew 2.5 times.

The volume of cargo loaded and unloaded at the minor ports in the 1^st half of 2011 comprised 0.79 million tons, an increase of 18.1%, if compared to the 1^st half of 2010.

In the first six months of 2011, there were 370.7 thsd passenger arrivals and departures at Riga Passenger Port, an increase of 14.6% if compared to the first six months of the previous year.

In the 1^st half of 2011 the passenger turnover at the port of Ventspils was 19.6 thsd passengers, and at the port of Liepaja – 9 thsd passengers.

In 2011, 2.38 mln passengers arrived and departed from Riga International Airport, which is an increase of 13.9%.

In the 1^st half of 2011, 1.62 mln passengers chose Latvian airlines for arriving and departing from Riga International Airport, which is an increase of 14% if compared to the 1^st half of the previous year.Whereas 0.76 million passengers used foreign airlines, and it is 13.5% more, in comparison to the same period of the previous year.

In the first six months of 2011, the largest passenger turnover at Riga International Airport was with airports in Germany – 0.28 mln passengers (increase of 3.6%), with airports in Great Britain – 0.28 mln passengers (increase of 7.7%) and with airports in Finland – 0.23 mln passengers (increase of 16.6%).
