Not only the fans of basketball have felt the benefits of hosting the EuroBasket 2011, but also the International Palanga Airport. Planes have been landing and departing in the airport significantly more often than usual.

"The number of the aircraft indeed has increased lately, for example, we received 3 Boeings with 150 Georgians in each. Also the Slovenians as well as the Ukrainians and the Belgians came by four different types of planes of capacity raging from 50 to 88 seats. Now, that the preliminary round match in Klaipeda is complete, more charter planes depart than land," said the airport's director. The director yesterday could not say what will be the exact financial benefit of the increased number of charter flights to the Palanga airport, as the bills will be sent to the airlines later, informs LETA/ELTA.

"Undoubtedly, our income will go up as a landing fee is charged for every aircraft, depending on its tonnage," the head of the airport said. As reported, a renovated passenger terminal at the International Palanga Airport opened in late August. The airport now has a possibility to handle flights to Schengen and non-Schengen Area countries at the same time.
