Estonian retailers: number of shops has tripled in 20 years

The number of shops in Estonia has tripled, as compared to the beginning of the era after Estonia regained independence, Estonian Retailers Association that celebrates its 15th anniversary on Tuesday, said, as reported by LETA/Äripäev.

More than 13% of all the employed or 80,000 people work in the trade sphere, over a half of them in the retail trade sphere, said the Association’s CEO Marika Merilai.
Merilai said that over the years, Estonian trade sphere has gone through a rebirth – the path from coupons to today has been full of stormy changes. “By now the deficit of goods has been replaced with abundance, for sales staff, customer satisfaction is primary which has resulted in consumesr being more informed and demanding,” she said.
Estonian Retailers Association includes 48 retail and wholesale companies and vocational schools and is a member of EuroCommerce.
