Estonian Chamber of Agriculture and Commerce said that the fact that Estonia is a self-supplying state concerning grain is especially important from the point of view of supplying the cattle farming sector with fodder.
Last year, grain was grown in Estonia on 297,200 hectares, by 8% more than in 2010. The total grain crop was 771,900 tonnes, by 14% more than in 2010.
The chamber said that Estonia needs more knowledge of international grain trade to cope at the fluctuating global grain market and be able to sell the crops at good prices. Skills and knowledge to have high crops and quality at fields is also needed.
On Wednesday the chamber's Grain Forum 2012 takes place in Paide.
