The bio-fuel based co-production station in Valka, a twin border town to Estonian Valga, is the first electricity and heating production unit outside Estonia for Eesti Energia.
Eesti Energia has operated at the Latvian market since 2006 as an electricity seller.
The earlier boiler houses of the town of Valka will stay in reserve.
10 million euros was invested in the project that was started in January last year; 36% of it was EU support meant for renewable energy.
