New beach area opened in Riga

Print versionA new recreation/beach area has been opened on the banks of the Daugava River near Vansu Bridge at the Riga suburb of Kipsala, LETA was informed by the Riga City Council's public relations department.

The new recreation area includes a children's playground, beach volleyball nets, two changing cabins, two bio-toilets, as well as several benches and garbage bins. The surrounding park area has also been tidied up and grass has been planted.
Specialists were called in to test the water-quality in the area and inspect the riverbed, who deemed the area suitable for swimming. However, the area will not be an official swimming spot, as no rescue stations are expected to be constructed at the moment.
Even before it was cleaned up and arranged, this site has always been a popular summer recreation area for city residents.
