Estonia and Singapore prepare for investments protection agreement

Estonian minister of foreign affairs Urmas Paet agreed with his Singaporean colleague George Yong-Boon Yeo that Estonia and Singapore will prepare an agreement on mutually defending the investments, Äripäev.ee/LETA reports.

Thus far, Singapore is the most important economic partner for Estonia in the South-East Asia and has for years been in the top ten of countries that have invested in Estonia.

 

Estonia’s exports to Singapore amounted to 39 mln kroons in 2009 while imports from Singapore to 69.6 mln kroons.

 

Paet and Yeo discussed options for promoting economic relations and co-operation in the field of research and technology.

 

Yeo was interested also in Estonia’s e-government and e-voting. Paet said that Estonia is interested in cooperation with Singapore on information, bio- and gene technology and medical sphere.
