Harmony puts forward Dolgopolovs for Latvian president
Dolgopolovs is an experienced Saeima member and a long-time chairman of the Public Administration and Local Government Committee. He has also worked as a member of the Riga City Council for a long time.
According to LETA's archive, Dolgopolovs graduated from Riga Polytechnical Institute (now Riga Technical University) in 1963 with a degree in engineering. He began his career at the "Alfa" semiconductors plant in Riga.
During the Reawakening period, Dolgopolovs was an active member of the Latvian Communist Party.
In 2001, Dolgopolovs was elected to the Riga City Council from the ticket of For Human Rights In United Latvia (PCTVL), becoming Riga deputy mayor.
After PCTVL split and National Harmony Party was established in 2013, Dolgopolovs was elected chairman of the new party. At the end of 2013, however, he was ejected from the party for violations of the party's program.
When Harmony Center was founded in 2005, Dolgopolovs became deputy chairman of the party.
