Sources tell LETA that ethnic Chechen businessman Bislan Abdulmuslimov, who has been under the watchful eye of authorities for some time in Latvia, has been detained in Riga by Corruption Prevention Bureau agents.

The reasons for the detention are not known yet.

Abdulmuslimov is the head and co-owner of the AB Holding group, which operates such companies as Rezeknes galas kombinats, Daugavpils gala kombinats, Karavela, Ventspils zivju konservu kombinats and others.

CPB Chief Jaroslavs Strelcenoks neither confirmed nor denied the detention of Abdulmuslimov, but did admit that bureau has recently carried out actions in relation to a criminal process.

In the interest of the investigation, the CPB will not release any more information at this time.

Abdulmuslimov has been involved in a number of incidents recently, and is seen as linked to the owner of now-defunct Latvijas Krajbanka, Vladimir Antonov.

Authorities have also been checking his connection to illegal political party financing.
