Nils Usakovs reelected Riga mayor

During the first meeting of the new Riga City Council yesterday, Nils Usakovs (Harmony Center) was reelected mayor of the Latvian capital. 39 city council members voted for Usakovs, informs LETA.

The other mayor candidate – Baiba Broka (For Fatherland and Freedom/LNNK), received 20 votes.

 

As reported, Harmony Center/Honor to Serve Riga won 39 out of 60 seats on the Riga City Council during the local government elections earlier this month.

 

All For Latvia-For Fatherland And Freedom/LNNK will have twelve seats on the Riga City Council and Unity will be represented by nine councilmen.

 

SC/GKR took 58.54% of the vote in Riga, VL-TB/LNNK – 17.86%, and Unity – 14.13%.

 

The other political parties that participated in Riga City Council election failed to clear the 5% threshold.

 

The Riga City Council is made up of 60 council members.
