Dombrovskis most popular candidate in the EP elections in Latvia

Former Prime Minister of Latvia Valdis Dombrovskis (Unity) received 148,056 pluses on the party's ballot slips, becoming the most popular candidate in the European Parliament elections in Latvia, according to the preliminary election results, reports LETA.

Also, Dombrovskis' name was crossed out in 6,214 ballots.

 

The second most popular candidate was Sandra Kalniete with 87,214 pluses; her name was crossed out in 15,069 ballots. Former Minister of Defense and the current Saeima member Artis Pabriks received 69,047 pluses while in 12,863 ballots his name was crossed out, whereas the current European Parliament member Krisjanis Karins received 42,092 pluses, with his name crossed out in 18,255 ballots.

 

All of these candidates have been elected to the European Parliament, according to the preliminary results

 

If Dombrovskis becomes a European commissioner, he will be replaced by Inese Vaidere in the European Parliament. Although sixth on Unity's ticket, she has moved into fifth place with 40,015 pluses and 21,516 cross-outs in ballots.

 

As reported, Unity convincingly won the elections with 46.19% of the vote. Four party members will represent Unity at the next convocation of the European Parliament.
