The Estonian retail chain Selver plans to open up a supermarket in the Latvian city of Rezekne (eastern Latvia) in 2008, LETA was informed by Selver Latvia Executive Director Uldis Priekulis.

The store will be 2,800 square meters large and will be located at Atbrivosanas Street 138. It is planned that 60 people will be employed at the new store.

As reported, the Selver chain plans to open 15 supermarkets in Latvia by the end of next year, investing about LVL 650,000 in each.

Selver has already purchased land for its stores in Riga, Ogre, Liepaja, Cesis, Tukums, Jelgava, Jurmala, Salaspils, Rezekne, Valmiera and Ventspils.

In Aizkraukle, Jekabpils and Daugavpils, Selver will be under the roof of existing shopping centers, but in Kuldiga – in the former consumer association store.

Priekulis believes that the entry of the chain will heighten competition, create a more favorable environment for consumers and improve retail quality.

Priekulis also pointed out that high quality food products are Selver's priority, also fresh local products daily, developed customer service, and an attractive environment for families and children. Selver wants to be one of the big players on the market, added Priekulis.
