Milk prices fell by a quarter in Lithuania's retail trade in October

The prices for most popular food products in Lithuanian trade centres in October 2009 decreased in comparison with the corresponding month of the previous year; milk prices in a year have fallen by 24%, sour cream – by 10%, and pork – by 5%, Vz.lt/LETA reported, referring to Agriculture Information and Country Business Centre (VIC) data.

One litre of 2.5% fat milk in packs costs 1.82-1.95 litas in retail trade centres of Lithuania; while price of 450 grams of the sour cream last year in Lithuania on average was 3.25 litas, and this year – 3.08 litas.
The study says that in a year price of 200 grams of butter in retail trade decreased by 12%, high-quality pork became cheaper by approximately five%, and chopped beef – by 3%.
The steepest fall in prices of all food products – by 54% – during a year from October 2008 to October 2009 was recorded for imported cucumbers which were traded for 2.92 litas per kilo.
