The Olialia Palace of Ice was built by specialists from Finland, Austria and Latvia in ten days. Hundreds of ice lumps were brought for the construction of the palace to Kaunas by 20 trucks. The Palace of Ice weighs around 70 tonnes. The height of its walls reaches about 6 metres, the thickness of walls stands at around a metre. The Palace is decorated by two 2.5-metre-height Christmas trees of ice. A sculpture of Santa Claus of ice will be built in the ice arena of Kaunas Akropolis.
The Olialia Palace of Ice has an ice bar where visitors will be able to try Olialia Cola drinks, Olialia Cola ice cream and special Christmas Olialia cocktails. The ice bar has even 25 Olialia Cola cans and 15 bottles frozen in the ice.
According to Daina Rupsiene, head of the restaurant Olialia Pizza in Kaunas, the proposal to be an operator of the ice bar was unexpected. "This is the real challenge. However, we have prepared a special Christmas menu and we are really going to surprise Kaunas," she said.
Residents and guests of Kaunas City will be able to visit the impressive Olialia Palace of Ice for the entire month, until January 6.
The Olialia Palace of Ice and the visit of Santa Claus is a present from the company Resolution Property Management, the owner of Kauno Akropolis. Sigitas Jautakis, company's CEO for the Baltic States, hopes that this present will create special festive atmosphere in the city.
Kaunas Mayor Andrius Kupcinskas was an assistant to the main world's Santa Claus in Lithuania.
