Globuss shopping center's lease coordinator Janis Bormanis informs, that it is still unknown whether the fire-destroyed Globuss shopping center in Cesis will be rebuilt, writes LETA.

The company Ilga-Sigulda owns the burnt down shopping center, which had 12 leaseholders. The company's executive director, Kaspars Kepals, informed LETA that the company's Chairman of the Board will decide on what action to take.

As reported, last night, a major fire burned through Globuss on Raina Street in Cesis, and the entire 2,400 square meter building was ravaged, LETA was told by Janis Goba, the Chief of the Cesis Department of the State Police.

The first flames broke out in the shopping center at 2.54 a.m. Experts are still gathering information on when the fire alarm started to sound and at what point the electricity supply was disrupted.

As the Cesis branch of the State Fire and Rescue Service explained to LETA, the fire began in the roof; after this, merchandise in the stores also caught fire.

According to Goba, specialists have arrived from Riga to establish the reasons for the fire; however, they have not been able to commence their work while the firefighters are still in operation.

A criminal process has since been started.
