The economic downturn has not left the Estonian printed media market untouched, and Russian language newspapers are operating in the red, Aripaev.ee quotes Dv.ee.

According to the Commercial Registry data, a tax debt of Den za Dnjom owner Merger Meedia OÜ amounted to EEK 1,004,442 at the end of July 2008. At the same time, Mole Kirjastus, that publishes Molodjoz Estonii, owes the state EEK 543,456.

The Jüri Vilms Foundation’s newspaper Vesti Dnja tax debt totaled EEK 666,661. There is tough competition on he Russian language printed media market, thus operating in the black is very difficult.

Expenses concerning publishing are very large and are growing constantly, Andres Tiisler, the responsible publisher of Den za Dnjom, noted.

Tiisler hopes that Den za Dnjom will be able to return to profitability this August.

Den za Dnjom plans to sign an agreement with the Estonian Tax and Customs Board for drawing up a schedule for paying the rest of the debt.
