President Ilves criticizes Tallinn TV for excessive expanses

Print versionEstonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves criticized Tallinn TV because the project's costs are too heavy for the city budget, the Estonian national broadcasting corporation ERR reports.

The comments came on Wednesday at the opening of of Cities and Municipalities day in Tallinn, writes LETA.
"This is wasting one's residents' tax revenue," Ilves stated.
Ideas on restoring regional balance were the order of the day, however, with Ilves warning that Estonia must not become a country concentrated in one or a handful of larger cities.
He said public bodies could retain branches in the counties by using modern IT solutions to ensure that the local offices had work that might otherwise be sent to Tallinn.
