Maag Lihatööstus buys Finland's fourth-largest meat industry

The Estonian meat industry Maag Lihatööstus bought 100% of shares of Finland's fourth-largest meat industry Pouttu, LETA/Delfi reports.

"Pouttu is a well-functioning Finnish meat processing industry that has a strong brand, dedicated and professional management and modern production," said Maag Grupp council chairman Roland Lepp.

 

Lepp said that besides growth of production and sales volumes, the experiences and skills of Pouttu in meat processing can now be implemented in Maag Lihatööstus in Estonia.

 

Pouttu, founded in 1938, is the oldest brand of the Finnish meat sector. The turnover of the meat industry, located in Kannus, 500 km from Helsinki, was 61.4 million euros in 2012. The company has 280 employees.

 

Maag Lihatööstus AS is a part of the Estonian food products concern Maag Grupp. As the result of taking over Pouttu, the turnover of Maag Grupp will increase to 174 million euros and number of employees to 786 people.

 

Maag Grupp includes besides AS Maag Lihatööstus also AS Maag Piimatööstus, AS Maag Konservitööstus, OÜ Nigula Piim, OÜ Maag Food, OÜ Gelid Food and Avalon Foods in Poland.
