Gorbunova declined to comment any further.
Whereas Liepnieks claims that his dismissal is because of former prime minister and People's Party founder, Andris Skele.
According to Liepnieks, Skele, whom he considers to be one of the actual owners of Diena Media Group, had demanded that Liepnieks sign a resignation letter without putting a day on it, so he could be fired without prior notice. Liepnieks refused, and now has been sacked as his trial period came to an end – for which the employer needs no particular reason.
Skele, for his part, commented that his former protege was "living in the past", and that his [Skele's] influence was being exaggerated.
Liepnieks says that Skele has a longstanding grudge against him, and he also suspects that the new head of Diena, Edgars Kots, may be involved.
