EU Commission launched infringement proceedings against Lithuania because of law on medicines

Danuta Pavilenene, BC, Vilnius, 03.06.2013.Print version
The European Commission has launched infringement proceedings against Lithuania, because the country within 18 months did not included into national law a directive on falsified medicines adopted in 2011, informs LETA/ELTA, referring to the daily Respublika.

Although we do not heat about fake medicine from the third countries in Lithuania and we buy more expensive drugs than most people in the European Union, our customs will have to become a barrier so that counterfeit medicine would not get into the EU.

Customs warehouses, import and export terminals, free warehouses where imported medicines are stored will have to acquire the wholesale drug distribution licenses. Not only distributors or pharmacies will have to check whether drugs are not counterfeit but also hospitals and clinics issuing medications.
