BC, Riga, 02.08.2013.Print version
Most patients, who were evacuated from the 32nd block of Pauls Stradins Clinical University Hospital due to today's blaze, have been relocated to other blocks, but those in need of intensive therapy are being transferred to other hospitals, LETA was informed by the hospital's spokeswoman Lasma Sile.

At the moment, the hospital is not accepting new patients – they are being redirected to the nearest health care institutions. Eastern Hospital, the closest hospital to Stradins Hospital, must keep in mind that the number of its patients will increase, Emergency Medical Services representative Inga Vitola told LETA.

Patients are also being transported to those health care institutions that have the required specialists, for example – Jurmala Hospital.

As reported, a fire broke out in the basement of the hospital's 32nd block today. It was followed by an explosion of oxygen balloons, shattering several windows on the first two floors and setting an area of 50 square meters on fire.

According to the latest information, the blaze injured two persons. Seven persons were rescued, more than 170 – evacuated.
