Idelsons: Lattelecom and LMT merger is a logical step

BC, Riga, 11.09.2013.Print version
Interviewed by the Nozare.l business portal, Bank M2M Europe CEO Roberts Idelsons called the planned merger of Lattelecom and Latvijas Mobilais telefons (LMT) a logical step, reports LETA.

In Idelsons' view, the decision for the Latvian government is simple. "Instead of having two companies in competition with one another, it is logical to unite them, with the next step being setting a privatization plan. I hope that this occurs – a logical step from the financial management angle. But – if the current indecision continues, then the time the government spends pondering, will cost it dearly," the banker points out.

As the right move, Idelsons sees selling the companies to erase state debt, so that the government does not have to pay interest. Decreasing the debt, the state would have more money.

Also, taxes would decrease for residents, they could breathe easier, have more more cash on hand for purchase of goods, helping to support domestic production.
