Pavluts requests Audit Office to evaluate Riga City Council's investment in Aqua Riga

BC, Riga, 16.09.2013.Print version
Economy Minister Daniels Pavluts has requested the State Audit Office to evaluate the Riga City Council's investment in the amount of at least LVL 100,000 in the establishment of Rigas udens subsidiary Aqua Riga, the Economy Ministry informed LETA/Nozare.lv.

The company's head Ineta Zalane has announced that the plans of establishing Aqua Riga for launching business activities and producing bottled drinking water remain frozen. Zalane explains that the company's future depends on Saeima and Cabinet of Ministers' decision on the Economy Ministry's bill on managing the companies and shares of public entities.

According to Pavluts, the Economy Ministry expressed objections to the establishment of Aqua Riga before the Riga City Council's decision. The Environmental Protection and Regional Development Ministry also had objections, pointing out that the establishment of Aqua Riga is not in line with state administration regulations and demanding the Riga City Council to lift its decision on the company's establishment.

The Riga City Council, ignoring not only official letters, but also the voice of reason, allowed Rigas udens to establish a new company to launch business activities and sell bottled drinking water. After investing at least LVL 100,000 in the company's establishment, the municipality suddenly saw potential problems with the law. Therefore the State Audit Office should assess whether the Riga City Council has squandered its funds, pointed out the minister.
